Verify a protected signature link by email

Confirm the expected email address with a one-time code before viewing or signing a protected document.

Last reviewed 2 min read

Prerequisites

  • A signature request email with a protected link, sent to the address the sender entered.
  • Access to that email inbox, since the one-time code is sent there.

Steps

  1. Open the protected signature link from the email you received.
  2. Enter the email address the request was sent to and select Send code.
  3. Check your inbox for a six-digit one-time code from Paperplane.
  4. Enter the code and select Verify code.
  5. Continue to the document once verification succeeds.

Expected result

You reach the signature request itself — the source PDF, the signing deadline, and the available signing methods. Verification confirms you’re the intended recipient before any document content is shown.

Common problems

  • No code arrives. Check spam or junk folders, and confirm you’re checking the same inbox the sender used when creating the request.
  • The code doesn’t work. A code is valid for 10 minutes and allows up to five attempts. Enter it exactly as received, or request a new code — you can do so one minute after the previous one.
  • You’re verifying with the wrong email address. Verification only succeeds with the address the sender entered for you. If that address is wrong, ask the sender to revoke the request and send a new one to the correct address.
  • The link itself won’t open, or says it’s no longer available. See Resolve signature link problems.
